ITINERARY
Day 1 - Darwin
Welcome Evening at YHA Hostel in Darwin
Day 2 - Darwin - Arnhem Land
Experience the best of Darwin, the tropical capital of Northern Territory, on this exciting day trip. Start early by heading to Wulna Country to learn about the local Limilngan-Wulna culture through interactive activities such as bush tucker talks, didgeridoo playing, and basket weaving demonstrations. Next, take a cruise on the Corroboree Billabong to explore the Top End's wetlands, birdlife, and saltwater crocodiles. After lunch, cross the East Alligator River to reach Arnhem Land, where a knowledgeable Bininj guide will take you to explore restricted areas visited by First Nation ancestors for thousands of years. Learn about the cultural significance of West Arnhem Land and its people's history before returning to Kakadu for an overnight stay.
Day 3 - Kakadu National Park
Start your day in Kakadu with an early breakfast and then head to Jim Jim Falls, which is the most renowned natural attraction in the area. The journey involves a challenging walk through monsoon forests and over boulders, but it's all worth it when you can cool off in the refreshing waters beneath the falls. Later on, we'll head to Anbangbang, which is another remarkable site that features ancient art that was initially on Warramal land. Although there are no surviving Warramal people, the neighbouring Mirarr and Djok communities take care of the site. In the afternoon, you can either take a scenic flight over Kakadu or visit the Bowli Cultural Centre to explore more of the local culture.
Day 4 - Kakadu National Park
After breakfast, take your pick between Gunlom Falls and Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) for a refreshing swim in another beautiful waterhole. Maguk features a steep gorge wall that flows down into a picturesque natural plunge pool, while the climb to the Gunlom Falls plunge pool rewards you with breathtaking views of Kakadu and a refreshing shade from the surrounding gum trees. Either option is a must-visit. Following a relaxing morning, hit the road and make a stop at Pine Creek, an old gold-mining town, for lunch. Afterward, continue your journey for three hours to reach your private campsite at the doorstep of Nitmiluk National Park. Enjoy dinner with your group and then settle in under the stars for the night.
Day 5 - Nitmiluk National Park - Litchfield National Park
Discover the wonders of Nitmiluk National Park and the deep Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge on this exciting day trip. The park is a haven of colours, ancient rock art, waterfalls, and wildlife that you can explore on foot, or by taking a cruise or renting a kayak for a closer look (optional activities at your own expense and subject to seasonal availability). In the afternoon, we'll make our way to Edith Falls, a hidden oasis with crystal-clear and cool waters surrounded by bronze boulders. You can take a refreshing swim in the large rock pools before we travel to tonight's camp located on the edge of Litchfield National Park, where a delicious dinner awaits.
Day 6 - Litchfield National Park - Darwin
Following breakfast, make your way to Litchfield National Park, a hidden gem known for its tropical rainforests, stunning waterfalls, and crystal-clear waterholes. Take your pick from Florence Falls, Wangi Falls, or Bluey Rockholes, and indulge in a picnic lunch. Take a leisurely stroll through the lush rainforests and take a refreshing dip in one of the park's beautiful swimming holes. In the afternoon, drive back to Darwin, which is about a two-hour journey.
