Tasmania offers world-class walking experiences, and we have curated beautiful trails for our guests, including many of Tasmania's 60 Great Short Walks. Some walks are guided, while others are self-guided. In many locations, you can choose between easier or more advanced options. Essentially, you can tailor the activity level to your preference; all walks are optional and range from 20 minutes to 4 hours.
DAY 1 | WELCOME TO HOBART
The first day of your itinerary starts in Tassie's capital and Australia's second oldest city Hobart. Here you have a pre-tour night included in YHA - one of the leading names in Backpacker accomodation. Tonight you can chill before your journey begins tomorrow.
DAY 2 | MOUNT FIELD NATIONAL PARK & STRAHAN
You'll be met by your Under Down Under tour guide first thing and your tour departs Hobart at 7.30. Today has a wildlife and scenery packed itinerary, exploring the incredible Mount Field National Park, the world-famous Russell Falls and Lake St Clair which is a world heritage site. All this whilst getting to know your new travel buddis; like-minded backpackers from all over thr world. When you get to Strahan, your overnight stop, your guide may show you where to find the elusive local Platypus if you're lucky!
DAY 3 | WILD WEST COAST
Today you'll head to the Tarkine Rainforest and witness Tassie's tallest waterfall - Montezuma Falls. You'll then have some free time to explore the Henty Sand Dunes and try your luck at some sand boarding, or opt for the optional Gordon River Cruise if you wish! (Extra Cost) Later you will check out Ocean Beach - which is where you can experience the undisputed 'freshest air in the world.'
DAY 4 | CRADLE MOUNTAIN & LAUNCESTON
This is the day you'll visit Tasmania's #1 main attraction, Cradle Mountain. You have the opportunity to hike and trek through the peaks or stay low in the glacial Dove Lake. You'll then spend some time in the afternoon in Sheffield, which is a town famous for it's murals before heading to Launceston for your overnight stop.
DAY 5 | BICHENO
Today you'll explore Launceston's famous Cataract Gorge before a scenic drive across the island over to the east coast, stopping at plenty of beach hotspots including The Bay of Fires where the beautiful turquoise waters make for a great pic. You will finish the day in the chilled out town of Bicheno for the night, which is the home of the little penguin.
DAY 6 | FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK & RETURN TO HOBART
Today is an early start but it's totally worth it! You'll head to the Wineglass Bay lookout which is a big tourist hotspot so we make sure you get there before the crowds do! You then have the rest of the morning to either relax on the secluded beach or opt for something a little more active with a hike up Mt Amos. The afternoon consists of taking in the stunning views of the Cape Tourville lightouse before a final drive back to Hobart where you'll be dropped at your post-night accomodation - which you have included.
DAY 7 | TOUR END
Today is your tour end, no accomodation or activities are included today. Aiport transfers can be organised on request.
Hobart

Russell Falls
Russell Falls, in Mount Field National Park, is a picturesque waterfall with tiered cascades surrounded by lush rainforest. The easy walking trail to the falls offers an accessible way to experience Tasmania's natural beauty and tranquility.
Mt Field National Park
Mt Field National Park is renowned for its diverse landscapes, including stunning waterfalls like Russell Falls and alpine areas. Visitors can enjoy various hiking trails, abundant wildlife, and beautiful scenery, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts.
Tarkine Rainforest

Strahan

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
First of all, we know it's Australia but believe it or not Tasmania can be pretty cold (especially in the mountains!) Make sure you bring plenty of warm clothing, closed shoes and activewear - stuff you'll be comfortable wearing on hikes and don't mind getting a little dirty. Other than that, you'll need toiletries, a towel, hat, sunscreen, waterproof jacket, swimsuit, and 1-2 litre refillable water bottle. To travel more sustainably, please bring a keep-cup (for coffees) and a reusable shopping bag.

The Tasmania tour starts and finishes in Hobart. This tour departs on specifc dates which can be found in our book section.
You’ll be travelling with a group from all over the world, and a fully trained Under Down Under guide available whilst on tour. Group sizes vary but you can generally expect to travel with a group of approximately 10-20 people.
2 nights is spent in YHA Hobart, in shared accommodation at a hostel, 1 at the start and 1 at the end of your trip.
The remaining 4 nights are also spent in mixed dorm hostels in the following locations: Strahan (2), Bicheno (1) and Launceston (1)
Meals are not included, this a self-catering tour. There are plenty of great food and drink stops along way and all your hostels will have kitchen facilities you can use.

There are no hidden or extra fee's luckily! You will visit (alot) of National Parks which usually incur park fee's but don't stress - these are all covered!

As a general rule, the more south you head in Australia the colder the temperatures and Tassie is no exception. Make sure you bring plenty of warm clothing, especially at night!
You can expect average temperatures of around 19°C in Summer and a brisk 8-9°C in the winter. With it being a maritime climate and off the coast of Melbourne too, you really could experience 4 seasons in one day so expect the unexpected!
